Research takes creativity, good judgment, persistence and quick access to large amounts of information. All of which we offer in generous supply.

Naturally, it’s important for the maps we create to have the most current and authoritative content available. No matter how obscure or demanding a search may be, we are always up to the challenge.

As seasoned professionals, we have been very fortunate to work directly with university faculty, scientists, government/military personnel and many other experts. We’ve researched everything from economic, climate, mining, and population data to fisheries management and place-name spellings. If we need to go directly to a leading expert on a subject, we’re certainly not shy about doing so.

Design

Designing maps is exciting and creative. Whether you ask us to start from scratch or work within an existing style, we bring our passion, enthusiasm and care to every map we create.

Part of the design process includes creating a comprehensive toolbox file where specifications have been clearly stated. You’ll find map files built with a logical layer structure, consistent use of colors, symbols, and type, and the proper pre-press settings.

Production

The truth is, we love making maps that exceed expectations. We employ highly efficient production and organization methods throughout the mapmaking process. An experienced project manager with an open ear and a penchant for order is assigned to each project.

All XNR cartographers are experienced in design software, page layout concepts and software programs. We make it easy for you to incorporate a finished map into your workflow.

Editing

As any cartographer will tell you, accuracy is the heart and soul of mapmaking. That is precisely what makes a thorough editing process so important.

Everything is verified. That includes linework, thematic information, project specifications and the overall effectiveness of the map. You can be assured that all the information in an XNR map is well researched, accurate, and backed by multiple sources.

Delivery

We can supply proofs and/or digital files throughout the production process. We host our own ftp site and email server, so electronic file transfer is no problem.

Thanks to carefully calibrated, high-resolution printers we can provide you with color-accurate proofs which will closely match the final printed output.

Everyone at XNR has a good understanding of professional printing processes, as well as the technical requirements for maps published on screen. We can easily work directly with service bureaus and printers. Just say the word.
